Mini MAC & Drugstore Haul

I don't know why but I seem to think birthday's are an excused to 'treat myself'. So I've spent quite a bit of money over the last few weeks, probably didn't help that my birthday also meant the end of my eyeshadow ban, and I've gone a little over the top, buying another 4 eyeshadows after treating myself to Burberry's Midnight Brown. But I could justify it, as 3 of them have survived a long wish list that has been whittled away.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo On & On Bronze

When these were released I knew I had to get my hands on this shade, so I waited patiently until my eyeshadow ban was over, and then immediately purchased it. I definitely haven't been let down. It's a gorgeous bronze (duh) that is beautifully pigmented and has been the perfect product to slap on, and blends well using just my fingers. Ideal when you need to get ready for work in a rush, especially when you tend to sleep through your alarm like I do!

Urban Decay All Nighter XL

 This was a complete spur of the moment purchase, and with my fix+ nearly run out I decided to pick one of these up, and managed to let the sales girl convince me to buy the bigger one. I have read great things about this setting spray so I'm hoping it impresses me. I keep forgetting to use it though, so once I've given it a proper test I will review it!

MAC Studio Fix Powder NC35

The liquid version has been a dear companion to me for many years now, and after Yu telling me how much she liked it, I decided to just go for it. The coverage is probably a little to light for me when I apply it using a normal powder brush, but I am looking forward to playing around with it, which I haven't had the chance to yet. Bear in mind, the colours of the powder don't correspond to the liquid version, so you you might have to go up a shade or three!!

MAC Club Eyeshadow

These two MAC shades have been carefully selected to fill my final two remaining spaces in my palettes (I have one neutral and one colour). I absolutely looove Club, and can't believe it's taken me so long to buy it. It's an amazing duochrome colour, that changes depending what light it's in. It's got great depth to it, and it looks great paired with goldy/brown shades as a base. Can't wait to experiment a bit more with it.

MAC Patina Eyeshadow

This is also a unique colour, although it has a fairly neutral browny base, it's got hints of pink, gold and purple to it. I think this is the sort of colour that will change depending on who is wearing it, which makes it a lot more complex and special that it might initially seems in the pan.

Loreal Infallible Eyeshadow Eternal Sunshine

My local Boots has a pretty small selection of these pressed eyeshadows, and I sort of grabbed this on a post-ban high, and then wished I had gone for the silvery one. But I am glad that I got this, it's super pigmented so you need to be careful it doesn't come out too yellow. But when you blend this softly and pair it with a bronze you get a beautiful golden/bronze smokey eye. 

Maybelline Ceramic Blue Nail Varnish

This was definitely influenced by Essie Button, and I'm a sucker for pastel shades any. Really love it, it's even got the most subtle shimmer/irridenscence running through it. Definitely one to look out for! I got so many compliments when I wore it. aOnce I soak off my gel I'll be doing a NOTD, it's such a beautiful colour and I think it would suit a lot of different skin tones.

I should really put down my debit card, but payday is so soon! Arghhh.

Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow: Midnight Brown

Hellooo!

Wow, a full time job has really left me little time to get my blog on. I feel really annoyed at myself, yet I'm not ready to give up. I am going make sure I dedicated time to get at least a couple posts up a week. So starting off my new commitment is a very special birthday purchase, which also marks the end of my 6 month eyeshadow ban. Yaaay!

This has been on my lust list for months, I've read so many reviews, watched videos, looked at countless photos.. .call it an obsession if you must. Pale Barley and Midnight Brown were in tough competition, and I decided to go for the brown instead, as it stood out a little more to me when I was at the counter. I had a mini-make over and just loved the effect. I was a little let down by Pale Barley, and it wasn't until I was outside in the normal light that I really appreciated how beautiful it was, and what a great pair the two made. So I will definitely be going back for it!

Despite being labelled as 'sheer' eyeshadows, I can tell you there is absolutely nothing sheer about this range. Midnight Brown is beautifully pigmented, buttery smooth with a slight shimmer shimmer and blends like a dream. This hands down, is the most impressed I've been with an eyeshadow. It's everything you want and more. I honestly feel like rushing out and buying the whole collection.. and there are some more gorgeous options coming out with the autumn collection! Although at £23 each, this could be a very silly decision (although totally worth it!!).

                            

Everything about this product is beautiful; the feel of the sturdy, adorned casing, the embedded patterns, its velour case, the magnetic clip. I could honestly go on and on about this.. over a freakin' eyeshadow!! To summarise, I am in love. And I urge you all to go find your nearest counter, (selected John Lewis & Harrods) and have a swatch, get a make over, and fall in love like I did. They really are as good as everyone says they are.

My Holiday Make Up

I've been back from Barcelona for two weeks now, I had such a lovely time and am seriously missing the food. We ate like crazy people, you can find some of the photos from my trip on instagram (@nic704) if you fancy having a nosey.

This post isn't a full on 'whats in my travel make-up bag' because it would be far too long, and I've planned some full reviews for the other items I haven't included. There's a few new products included as well which I haven't used long enough to review individually.

MAC Fix+

Honestly, I don't think this helps extend the length of your make-up,  but it's refreshing, helps you to stop looking too powdery, and helps your make up look more natural. I  use it set my eye make-up, or when I need to foil any eyeshadows. 

NARS Luster

 I am absolutely loving this blusher, adds the perfect bit of colour to your cheeks, leaving a slightly sun kissed glow. Only problem I have with it, is that there is a lot of fall out, which upsets me as I feel like I'm blowing half my product away with each brush swipe. I have two other NARS blushers, and not had this problem, so either it's just Luster, or I've got a dodgy one.

Paco Rabanne Lady Million

I am obsessed with this scent, it's fresh, feminine, lasts ages, & makes me feel so summery. 

Korres Milk Bar Soap (for stressed skin).

 This little bar actually does a pretty good job of removing my foundation, it's completely paraben and chemical free and I feel good using it. As of the last two weeks, I haven't really used anything else to cleanse and my skin seems to be reacting really well to it, ie. it's clearing up.

Korres Lip Butter Quince

I don't know why it took me so long to pick up one of these up, love the way it feels on my lips, the colour pay off is pretty impressive too. Especially great on holiday, when you can't be bothered with lipstick, and just want something to slap on!

YSL Volupté Sheer Candy No10 Tangy Mandrine

I bought this just after Christmas, (not sure why I've not blogged about it yet). While it may just be an overpriced, non-moisturizing tinted balm (it's not drying though), the packaging is beautiful, the smell is amazing and I am in love with the orange stain is leaves behind. It goes on glossy, but that doesn't last too long, but the colour sticks around for ages, and on me that is impressive stuff. It's so light weight as well, it's like you're not wearing anything. It's the perfect thing to slap on while on holiday, or even on nights out when you can quickly apply it and forget about it. I don't think all the other colours from this range have a good colour pay off, so it's worth swatching or trying on in store.

L'oreal Telescopic Mascara (Waterproof)

This is hands down the best waterproof mascara I've found, it's also my every day mascara, and while I'm not 100% sold on the way it makes me lashes look, long but lacking body/thickness,  it hold a curl like crazy, and there is zero smudging, or flaking.

Garnier Caffiene Roll-On

While I don't really thinking anything will 100% take away my dark circles, this was on special just after I finished my exams, and I thought I might as well pick it up and try it out. I love how good the roller ball feels first thing in the morning, and I think it's worth it for just the cooling effect, especially seeing as I paid just over £5 for it.

MAC Cream Colour Base Hush

I have become a little obsessed with highlighters lately, and Hush is my most recent addition. This purchase was influenced by Kelly's (a blog of vain pleasures) post on her highlighter collection (which I am majorly envious of). So after my last exam I popped to MAC with a £5 on my Debenham's card and picked it up. I really love it, and am looking forward to getting a tan as think it will look even better when I have one. Chanel Tan de Soliel/ Bronze Universel

I didn't end up using this, but my love is still going strong for it over a year. I think it's because I don't use it too often, so when I do I really enjoy it. I sometimes use it as an over all base under my foundation, or use it lightly to contour when I've got a bit of a tan.


Phew, sorry that was a long one! In other news, I've started work today, as in full time, job for life. So scary knowing I'm not going back to Uni in September. But more importantly it's my birthday in two days and I'm sooo excited!

Review: Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil

I am ridiculously happy I took Yu's advise and bought this. As you can see it's been well used, and I do use it pretty much every night. I honestly started to see and feel results with the first week of using it.  Not only does it help to fade red pigmentation, but it also helps to calm my skin if I do I have any any flare ups. I use this at night only, as although it does sink in pretty well, I do still find it a bit heavy under my make up in the morning. 

I probably started off using too many drops, as I felt like because it does sink in, I almost felt like it wasn't doing it's job. But even when I use it as Clarin's direct, which is on a face still damp from toner, using 3-4 drops (which I put onto my palm and then press them together) and then dab it onto your skin, the results are just as good. (If I have a particularly dry patch, I tend to use a teeny bit extra oil and rub it gently into that area.) The applicator is a pipette, so it's really easy to control how many drops you need.

I wake up in the morning with plump, healthy feeling skin. My skin tone looks more even, angry bits have calmed down and the texture of my skin feels smoother with pores looking tightened. This is actually miracle stuff. My mom borrowed some one night, and could't get over how much better it make her skin feel. 

What Clarins say: This best-selling oil contains extracts of Rosewood, Patchouli, and Blue Orchid to tone, revitalise and restore radiance to moisture-depleted skin. Hazelnut oil helps to prevent moisture loss and the formation of find lines.

I 110% recommend this to anyone (no matter what your skin issues are, or aren't!), there are three different choices so you can find one to suit your skin type.  If you're wary about committing, try asking for a little sample pot of the oil from your local counter. If you're unsure which one may be best for you, they are usually pretty happy to chat about the products and which options are best for your skin.

Can't imagine not having this as part of my skincare routine, but I think I'm going to try and not use it every night, otherwise I'm going to go through the bottle far too quickly. The results are so addictive though!

Review: Clarins Daily Energizer Cream-Gel

If you're looking for a light day cream that sinks in quickly, smells fresh (a plant-like scent), and provides a good base for make up, then look no further! The last few weeks I have been looking forward to using this every morning, I used a probably about 3 pea sized blobs and then gently rub in. The gel/cream formulation means spreads really nicely, making a small amount go a lot way, while leaving your skin feeling fresh. I really wish I could get away with not wearing foundation, as this really does leave your skin looking healthy, but as I mentioned it is great under make up too. My skin feels hydrated, and the feelings uncomfortable feelings of tightness are no longer there. I've used this once or twice without the serum, and honestly, my skin is just as supple as when I use it with it. It really feels great, and I can't say my I've ever appreciated a moisturiser as much as this. My has also started to feel a lot smoother & definitely softer...it's loveeee. I will be repurchasing this when it runs out.

What Clarins say: 'combination of vitamin C, alchemilla and turmeric extracts : energizes skin and helps eliminate minor imperfections.'

I've read that tumeric is supposed to help with skin pigmentation, and I have to say that since using the combination of these three products, I've definitely noticed a reduction in my red marks. The night oil did make a difference before I started using the serum & this moisturiser, but the combination seems to be working a right treat!

(If redmarks/pigmentation is an issue for you, I would definitely recommend you read my review on the Face Treatment Oil which should be up soon.)

This range is specifically aimed at younger skins, it's non-oily with a matte, yet fresh, finish. I really love this line, and have got a deluxe sample of the cleansing melt, which is really lovely too.

(They also do a full cream version, which would probably be better for drier skins, and those less prone to break outs.)

Review: Clarins HydraQuench Intensive Serum

The HydraQuench Intensive Serum is mixture of oil and solution/serum (not sure exactly what you call it) so it needs a good shake before you use it. I use two pumps in the morning only, as the Blue Orchid oil (review coming) is little heavy to wear under make up. This, on the other hand works great, it's super light, and sinks in quickly with no greasy residue at all (it can be used in the night time as well if you don't want to splash out for both.) I apply it in dabbing motions from the centre of my face outwards, and within a minute, it's sunk it, my skin feels smooth and soft, with a natural finish. 

The reason I picked this up was because, although my skin was nice and supple when I woke up, within a few hours of applying my foundation, my skin seemed to dry up again with dry patches popping up! I do wear Double Wear, which is generally quite drying, but I had problems when trying out different ones too.  Whether it's been a combination of the moisturiser & serum, or just the serum, my skin has definitely improved. My skin is more supple, feels nicer to touch, and dry patches are kept at bay.

What Clarins say: ' a bi-phase serum which restores vitality to very dehydrated skin, even in exteme climates.' It contains Omega 3, Inca Peanut oil, as well as hyaluronic acid and Katafray bark to restore natural hydration.

Just to let you know, they have recently changed the packaging and formulation of this serum, it's got a runnier consistency, but apparently apart from that the formula is similar. (This is what a sales assistant told me!) I was a little peeved as the new one came out a week after I bought this, and the original girl who helped me didn't mention it! I would have much rather waited a week to try the new one. But hey, never mind.

I have read some reviews saying it can cause breakouts, but I haven't experienced that at all. But for those that can have reactions to products (which I don't) they may need to keep that in mind.

£40 for 30ml (same for the new formula)

It probably was a bit excessive of me to splash out for this, but I do genuinely feel it's been making a difference, as it really gets down into the skin and keeps working all day. I haven't regretted it at all.

Easter/ Westfield Haul

Helloooo, I'm back!

This posted was supposed to be up two weeks ago, but Uni has taken over my life, and when I do have some time I just don't seem to have to energy to think of anything to write that would not bore you to sleep, and I really didn't want to put up a half-arsed post! It's now 3am, and I've just finished my prep for my second essay and really felt motivated to get this up!

This is a bit of a mixed haul, but mostly it was from a little trip to Westfield while I was at home at Easter. It was mostly an excuse to meet up with Yu, and we had a lovely time- hope she appreciated me getting up before 9, that doesn't happen too often. We started off at Pain le Quotidien (great place for breakfast/brunch and reasonable too! Definitely recommend) and discussed our mutual appreciation for runny eggs before showing her my make up bag, and being told 'ouu you're one of those', (my used lipstick takes on a sort of scooped slop, rather than being flat.) We then spent a good few hours milling round the shops, swatching, oogling at handbags through windows, and spending too much money, more me than Yu, but I had cash burning a whole in my pocket. Anywho, on to my purchases...

Good Things Miracle Mattifier Moisturiser

Continuing on with the idea of simplifying my skincare, and reducing the amount unnecessary chemicals that go on my face I picked this up. I had already picked up the night cream version which I am actually in love with and will do a full review on it soon.  After a couple weeks use, I've really enjoyed this, although next time I think I'll go for the normal version, but it works really well as a mattifier, I just find with Double Wear (my foundation of choice) my skin doesn't really need extra mattifying.

Kleenex Facial Cleansing Wipes

These were on special in Tesco, and I'd read they're quite good and 'moist' (urgh, horrible word). I like to keep some wipes at my boyfriends house just incase I forget my make up remover, and I've only used these a couple times but I'm seriously unimpressed. I feel like they just tug on my skin a lot- maybe I got a bad pack, or it just doesn't work well with Double Wear.

NARS Luster Blush

Definitely influenced by Yu's raving about it, and although I wasn't planning on picking it up when I saw her, it had been on my wishlist for ages and I decided to just go for it. And I really really love it, and will definitely do a review and hopefully face of the day!

Benefit dr feelgood Primer

Yu and I looked at this at Westfield, but I didn't actually buy it until I was back up at uni. My best friend from home used to wear this when we were younger and I was always fascinated by it. My POREfessional had nearly run out so I decided to bite the bullet. At the moment I'm a little undecided about how I feel, and will do a full review when I've used it a bit more.

Caudalie Beauty Elixir 

Totally gave in to all the blogger hype, yes it's refreshing, but no I don't notice any improvements to my skin or brightening, no wows here and it's running out ridiculously quickly. So again, I'm very torn- it's a nice enought product, but I don't think it delivers on all it's claims. But then again, I've only been using it 3 weeks.

Clarins Blue Orchid Face Treatment Oil (for dehydrated skin)

I'm sososo glad I listened to Yu and picked this up, okay more like invested, as it's not cheap. It really deserves it's own post, gets a massive thumbs up from me! 

Topshop Innocent Lipstick

I originally wanted Infrared, but decided I don't wear my bright orange's enough so justify buying a third one, so when for a more wearable everyday pink. I had previously bought the Strawberry Shortcake Revlon lip butter, but lost it, so decided to go for something different!

Dove Nourishing Oil Conditioner

I've spoken about my love for the express treatment before, but decided to try out the normal version as well to see how it compared. I've only used it twice so far, and have really liked it, not sure if it's going to replace the express version though!


I would quickly like to wish everyone luck who's coming up to the end of year exams/assignments, or are doing them at the moment. It's really not a fun time of the year is it!?

LUSH Skincare Round-Up: Enzymion Moisturiser

Moisturiser is really a step any skin type shouldn't skip; it's important to remember there is a difference between dry and dehydrated skin, (oily skin can still be dehydrated). I would have described my skin as combination/oily over the last few years, but since stopping my pill, my skin seems to be more normal, but I suffer from dry patches, (mostly from blemishes drying out). My skin is, or rather, it can be very dehydrated, but I never want to risk overloading it with something too rich. I previously used Liz Earle Light Skin Repair moisturiser, which was lovely, but after two bottles,  I wanted to try something new, so Claire at LUSH recommended Enzymion.

I bought it because it's specially aimed at oily skins, and I loved the fact it contained fruit enzymes, (which supposedly work wonders for your skin). The papaya helps to remove dead skin cells, lemon contains natural skin bleaching capabilities, helping to fade marks,  as well as giving a matt finish, while the cocoa butter and avocado oil help to moisturise.

I really love Enzymion. It's light weight, smells great- really fresh- and sinks in quickly and really does provide a great base for make up. I find it can double as a night cream if you use two thin layers, instead of one, and in the morning I wake up with my skin feeling soft and plump like it should be, (if your skin generally doesn't feel like this you may be suffering from dehydration. ) I honestly couldn't comment on the the ability to fade marks, as my skin is till breaking out, I had fresh marks, but what I do notice is the overall appearance of my skin definitely doesn't seem as dull since I've been using this. One thing to watch out for is how much you use, I always overestimate and end up using too much; so start off with the smallest amount and gauge that way. As mentioned in my toner post, it works great when I apply it while the toner is still damp on my skin.

My only gripe is that it comes in a tub, and I really would have loved it in a bottle with a pump instead! I don't mind using tubs for eye creams, but I think for moisturiser it is more hygienic to have it in pump form, as obviously you're spreading the cream all over your face! What I do, is slightly tap some on the back of my hand and it apply it from there, rather than sticking my fingers into the tub itself. I also find it tends to get  a bit messy round the edges, especially when travelling (I purposely didn't clean the sides in the photos so you can see what I mean!). If you can overlook this issue, then this might just be the moisturiser for you!

Suitable for? I'd say combination to oily skin types, or for those just looking for something nice and light that sits well under make up. (Probably not for dry skins though.)

Price: £13.50/ 45 g (definitely on the pricer side for LUSH skin care products, but I honestly think it will last ages. I've been using mine for about 6 weeks (I forget exactly when I bought it) and I've still got half left.)

So, that rounds up my current three step LUSH program, they pretty much dominate my skincare routine; I also use Ocean Salt scrub (review coming soon) and Enchanted eye cream (review here). There's a few other non-LUSH cleansers that I use depending how I'm feeling, and a really basic Superdrug one I use in the morning, but to be honest, it's nothing special. I've really enjoyed this routine, and although I haven't notice a massive difference in my skin, there's been a slight improvement, but with things like skin care you need to be patient! So I'll be finishing everything off before I make a final judgment.

NOTD: Mavala Fresh Melon

A super gorgeous, creamy apricot shade, from the Mavala Delicious collection. They new collection comes with some great polish colours, and I am regretting not picking up the yellow one as well. I picked this up at Professional Beauty, as it reminded me a lot of Chanel's June, but at the bargain price of £2.50.  It's got a lovely shimmer/sheen (no glitter!) to it, which make your nails seem really glossy. (I tried to capture it, but it's so subtle it's hard to pick up- especially as I missed the sun for the day). I had quite a few compliments on it, it really is the perfect spring/summer colour. This is my first ever Mavala polish, and to be honest I don't know why I haven't picked any up before. It applies beautifully, and dries sooo quickly, which is something I love in a polish. I did use three coats, but as mentioned before I always apply my polish in thin layers, but I reckon with a normal applicable you would be able to achieve full opacity with two coats. I highly recommend, and defintely think you should check out the rest of the collection for some perfect pastels.  

Mavala polishes are available from the usual department stores, (Debenhams, John Lewis etc) for around the £4.10 mark.

You can pick them up from lookfantasic online for £3.45 but they don't have the ful range of colours. feelunique stock the full Delicious collection for £18.50 - that's for 6 polishes so a pretty good deal if you ask me!

LUSH Skincare Round-up: Breath of Fresh Air Toner

Continuing my skincare routine, next up is my current toner,  Breath of Fresh Air*. (I recently finished up the Tea Tree toner from LUSH, which I review & compare in my empties post coming soon). I like to use a toner to thoroughly remove any last traces of make up before bed, and to refresh in the morning.  I chose this toner in particular, as it contains seawater which is supposed to help soften and hydrate, while the seaweed and aloe works on the surface of your skin to hydrate and lock in moisture. Dehydration is definitely a bit issue for me at the moment, and anything that claims to help it, I find hard to resist. 

 The thing I love about LUSH's range of, what they describe as, 'toner waters' is that they are all pure spring water with zero alcohol, and can also be used during the day to spritz all over the face to refresh, this one included.  I use it after powdering my make up, and various times during the day without it ruining my make up at all, great for a little wake up spray. I found it to be a godsend while I've been ill, no overwhelming scent and cooling to the skin.

I really like this as a no-fuss toner, it doesn't promise miracles, but I do find my skin overall is becoming less dehydrated (using the combination of Ultrabland and this). I use 3-4 sprays on a cottonwoold pad and gentle wipe over my face. I find it removes those last few traces of makeup which I usually miss along the hair line, without drying me out at all. My skin doesn't feel tight or uncomfortable at all. I like to apply my moisturiser while my skin is still damp, which means I end up using a little less of it and my skin feels lovely afterwards. 

Suitable for? I would say all skin types, but those with oily skin might enjoy the Tea Tree toner more, (look for review soon!)

LUSH Skincare Round-up: Ultrabland Cleanser

Hello! 
(please be warned this is a bit of long post, but I feel skin care needs to be discussed a bit more)

Those that have been reading for a while, will know that I've been suffering with my skin since the end of last year- things have definitely calmed down since coming off my pill, but I'm still not happy with it. I really wanted to keep things as simple as possible and of course I decided to turn to LUSH. I initially went in to pick up Ocean Salt scrub and a new moisturiser and while I was there I got chatting to the lovely sales assistant Claire, who reads blogs/youtube so we had a little natter about that, and I gave her my blog details. A week or so later she contacted me and asked if I would like to come in and try out some stuff to review. I obviously jumped at the chance, LUSH is one of my favourite places to shop and I love the whole ethos behind them- recycle, mostly vegan, keeping things as natural and fresh as possible.

Claire took me through the shop and asked me a lot of stuff about skin care, and what I'm looking for and gave me a couple items to complement the LUSH bits I'd bought a couple weeks before. I've now been using them for a good 3 weeks or so, and they deserve a review! I've decided to do these in separate posts, as I think skin care deserves a full and detailed review and I didn't want to turn it into an essay. (The remainder of the posts won't have such a long intro... sorry!)

ULTRABLAND(*)

This is a thick, very rich oil based cream cleanser which as you rub and it melts into your skin, it takes on more of an oil consistency. It's made primarily of almond oil and beeswax; so it really works well at getting every trace of make up off (including waterproof mascara).  Although it's not paraben free, it's a pretty simple cleanser with no unnecessary chemicals in, and LUSH claim it's perfect for rebalancing your skin- it also contains honey which has natural antiseptic properties and rose water to help reduce redness and calms skin. I  have enjoyed using it, but that might be because I'm quite used to using an oil cleanser, if you don't enjoy them, or have very oily skin you might not feel comfortable using Ultrabland (although its specially formulated to be suitable for ALL skin types). It also has a very weird smell, I personally don't think it's offensive but I can understand why some might not enjoy it, it's hard to describe though. You're better off going into the store and giving it a whiff yourself!

 I found it to actually be quite hydrating, and its really helped my drier patches. I'm sure this is down to the glycerol which is supposed to draw moisture up to the top layers of your skin, and reduce overdrying. It does need to be removed with a cloth, I used a muslin cloth, otherwise you will be left with the uncomfortable feeling of wax over your face after rinsing. Another thing I feel I should highlight, it doesn't quite feel like you've removed everything at first, but after a few more uses I came to the realisation that I think it's actually just the cleanser helping to rehydrate and balance, my skin was feeling softer and smoother. Dehydration be gone.

Suitable for? All skin types; it's designed especially to be super gentle yet effective for everyone. Those that don't enjoy removing with a cloth, or want something a little easier and quicker to use might not enjoy it as much. I used this only at night when removing my make up, it's a bit too heavy for morning use.

A Couple No 7 Goodies

If you're anything like me, you collect No.7 vouchers and then either forget to spend them, or just lose them. Either way, in a bloggers world (or at least mine) it's practically a sin to not spend money when you're going to be saving.  So the other day, I picked up the Amazing Eye Pencil in Brown, and the Perfect Lips Pencil in Nude- they are two things I was after (not particularly from No 7, but at under £3 for each I thought why not!)

The lip pencil comes with its own little sharpener in the tip, which I though was a really nice touch. I actually ended up smooshing the end of my pencil while taking the photos so I had to use the sharpener and it worked really well. The lip pencil is a retractable, while the eyeliner is a standard one that needs to be sharpened. It also comes with a smudger at the end, which I do really like. The overall packing reminded me a LOT of the Estee Lauder Double Wear Pencil, but I guess you can't really differentiate too much when it comes to eyeliner packaging- so I'll forgive No 7 somewhat.

They are both impressively pigmented, and apply really smoothly. I've only worn the lip liner under lipstick a couple times, so it's obviously a little harder commenting on it's lasting power- but I guess I could say it lasts as long as your lipstick does? The eyeliner is really great, I've had it on for 8 hours now and it's still looking good! 

These two were great little deals, and have filled the holes in my collections. To pick them up for such a great price makes me very happy indeed! The eyeliner is £7.75 full price, and the lip liner £7.50, so with my two vouchers, I paid just over £5 for something that should have cost £15. I do find No 7 products greatly over priced, and only really consider them when the vouchers are available. Saying that, I had a little swatch of the new primer and it seems like it could be the such of airbrushed miracles! I should really try it properly before making such statements, I don't think relying on the effects it had on the back of my hand can counts.

The vouchers run out on Sunday, so if you've got some to use up I definitely recommend having a look at these, they both come in a selection of shades.

Review: Laura Mercier Under Eye Perfecter

My sleeping patterns have never been what would be considered 'normal', and dark circles have always been a concern. But until I started reading blogs, I hadn't really considered using a corrector, as well as a concealer; I think I always assumed they were the same thing. Bloody good job I've got all you other bloggers out there to educate me! I've tried the Bobbi Brown Corrector (although never owned it) and it is great stuff, but I guess I was just drawn into trying something new- and hadn't read too much about Laura Mercier's offerings.

The Under Eye Perfecter comes in only 2 shades; orange/yellow and mauve/rose which are supposedly formulated to suit a range of skin tones. The very lovely and helpful salesgirls told me that the mauve/rose are for darker skinned ladies, and although the orange/yellow looks ridiculously scary in the pot (and under the eyes for that matter) it really disappears and works its magic when applied under concealer.

Unlike the BB corrector, this is not creamy at all, and it's actually why I've enjoyed using it more. It's solid, so all you do is gently press your finger into the pot to slightly melt the product and use a dabbing action to cover the dark circles. The teeeeniest bit goes really far, and I think will end up lastly much longer than the BB equivalent- it is priced at £1.50 more, but you also get an extra 0.3grams.

So does it actually work? YES! I am really really impressed with this product, and really happy as I didn't get on well with my LM primer at all, or maybe it just didn't get on with my foundation? Anyway,  I digress... I just went to double check the size and saw a couple reviews saying that they found it worked even better when mixed in with the concealer on the back of the hand before applying, I haven't tried that but I definitely will. You do need to make sure you dab and blend out well, otherwise I found there can be a little creasing but when applied properly I didn't notice any at all. I use my MAC Pro Longwear concealer on top and don't powder. I was semi tempted to pick up the Secret Brightening Powder as well, but I'm glad I didn't as I'm not sure how much difference it actually made, and when I got in my car and looked in my visor mirror, I saw I was sparkling as if I'd whacked a bit of glitter under my eyes...errr, no thanks!

NOTD: OPI Coney Island

A quick post to show one of my purchases from The Professional Beauty Show, it's OPI's Coney Island Cotton Candy which is a very milky peach with quite yellowy tones (at least that's how it looks on me).  I had to use a whooping 5 layers, as the white tips of my nails were still showing through, but  it does apply thinly and dries quickly, so it wasn't too much of an issue.

I have bumped a couple of them, so sorry they don't look too great and for obvious reasons I couldn't be arsed to redo them! I really wanted to show what a lovely shade it is; I love the hint of peach. It would be nice if it went opaque in fewer layers but hey! It hasn't put me off, as it's quite a unique colour, at least to my collection.

I would like to say, I'm not too far off 50 followers which is uber exciting for me, and I would love to do a little give away when I reach it to say thank you to you all. Not sure exactly what I will be yet, but I'm heading into the shops this weekend to pick something up!

EOTD: MUA Quick Daytime Look

I've owned the MUA Dusk til Dawn eyeshadow palette for a while, but it's always sat quite unloved being passed over in favour of my MAC palettes. Yesterday, I decided to have a little play, and paired two colours which I thought worked really well together. The two I used are surprisingly buttery, so they apply and blend beautifully, with finish I can liken to the Veluxe Pearls from MAC.

I'm a bit rubbish at describing colours, so I'll let the photos do the talking. I admit, I was drawn to the purple, which is a colour I love wearing. I think it works really well with brown eyes, and I've heard purple is good for making the eyes look brighter and whiter. (Apparently applying purple mascara to the tips of your lashes also works a treat!)

I used shade 1 (numbered below) all over the lid on top of MAC's Painterly Paint Pot, and then blended 2. on the outer lid and into the crease.  I think it gives a really soft, wearable slightly smokey eye. I didn't curl my lashes, just whacked some Loreal Telescopic in waterproof on to keep the look as simple and fresh as possible. It's definitely a combo I'll be wearing again.

I won't go into too much detail on the palette as a whole, as I haven't used it enough to comment, but I really do like the few I'm used and find them so easy to apply. (Think I may use the more glittery shades on the weekend!) To be fair, for £3 you can't really go wrong, even if you only use a couple of the colours. They really are great value for money and can be found in Superdrug in store or online.

February Empties

I know I've been very quiet on the blogging front lately, but I haven't seemed to have much time and a few other things have grabbed my attention. We are moving house in a few weeks so I've spent a lot of time looking at furniture and things like that, so my blog has taken a back seat but hopefully I'll be back in action properly from next week. I've been saving for DSLR the last few months, and finally bought one earlier this week and am so excited for it to arrive so I can start taking some better quality photos.

Now onto my February empties,  I'm semi-disappointed I have no make up items used up, but I am feeling good about reducing my large stash of skin care items!

1. St Tropez Bronzing Mousse 120ml £20.49 here or here (on special)

This has always been a product my moms owned, and I've tried it at some point or other when I was younger, but never owned it myself.  (I remember once my friend and I used my mom's and pretended we had been to France for the weekend, we even called another friend with the tap running pretending we were on a ferry hahaaa. The things 13 year olds do for fun, cringe! ) Anyway, I do really love the colour it gave me, and it faded nicely, but I do think it's very pricey and it didn't last me very long.  I think it's time to declare myself a Xen-Tan girl and repurchase the dark lotion.

Repurchase? Probably not, although it gives a lovely natural colour, Xen-Tan definitely works out cheaper and smells better.

2. Liz Earle Instant Boost Skin Tonic 200ml £12.50 here

This is my second bottle and it's a product that I like using, but I don't think it does anything amazing for my skin. I always like to use a toner/tonic to make sure I remove the final traces of make up and this does work well at that. It's very gentle and does leave my skin feeling fresh, I love the fact it's alcohol free too. 

Repurchase? Probably at some point, but I'm hoping to try out another Lush toner first. 

3.Liz Earle Skin Repair Light Moisturiser 50ml £18.50 here

This was perfect for me in the summer time, (this is my second tube) but during the winter it just hasn't been hydrating enough. I think I should perhaps have gone for the normal/dry version, maybe would have worked better for me. 

Repurchase? Not for the moment.

4.Garnier 2-1 Make-up Remover 200ml £2.99 here

Really love this oil/water remover, it works so well with waterproof mascaras. It leaves a bit of residue behind but it doesn't last for long at all. This is my second bottle and until I find something better I'll continue to repurchase!

Repurchase? Yes.

5. Carmex Lip Balm Original £2.69 here

Without a doubt, my HG lip balm. Nothing is as moisturising and nourishing as the original, and I've tried them all.  I bought a back up before this finished, I very rarely never have Carmex on me and it's something I will always see myself buying.

Repurchase? Without a doubt!

In other news, I'm heading to Professional Beauty on Sunday, as my mom exhibits there ever year and they've got a brand new stand and are releasing some new products so we're all very excited about that. A Hair Miracle.

In January, I won a giveaway of Lisa's and was sent a surprise gift, which turned out to be the Style Shifter Spray from Schwarzkopf OSIS  (the one I secretly wanted), which is a liquid texturising spray. Lisa had previously reviewed them calling it her 'hair saviour', so I was expecting big things, (you can read her review here). I was not disappointed, and I'm not exagerating when I describe it as my miracle spray.

I am so lazy when it comes to my hair and usually just twist it into a bun before it's completely dry,  and shaking it out an hour later or so, but this really helps to define the waves and give them a little 'boost'.  It makes it look like I've spent an hour curling my hair, when all I've done is turned my head upside down and giving them a light spray and scrunched my hair with my hands. I do completely agree with Lisa, I think this works best for those with natural waves or curls, and really adds more body and shape. Basically, I think it's amazing, and it smells like coconuts and tropical paradise. Mmm.

I definitely recommend this line, it's been an absolute time saver in the mornings when my hair looks a mess, and there's no more fusing around with straighteners or my hot brush to make my hair look presentable. If you're anything like me, and enjoy your sleep this one is definitely for you. It's also worked really well for me when I've had to get ready with limited time for a night out, a quick spritz and my hair is done. I'll definitely be purchasing this when I run out.

It is a salon exclusive product, and comes in three different strengths, this one being the lightest, and retail for £8.70. So if there's a salon near you that stocks Schwarskopf OSIS products it's worth checking out. Lisa also found a website that sells them, so have a look at her post if you're interested in buying online.

Just a quick word of warning, don't spray too close or you can find your hair can get a bit crispy!

The One

For years, I disregarded the importance of using a primer on my eyelids, I've fleetingly used the ELF one (really impressive for the price) and UDPP which, to be honest, I really didn't like, it just didn't work for me, but neither became regulars in my eyeshadow application. But a lovely sales assistant in Santa Barbara opened my eyes, and I can happily say I've found the one.

MAC Painterly is a pale nude, which looks pink/flesh toned in the pot, but when it's applied to the lids it had a slight grey/purple tinge to it. But it is pretty neutral, and so it makes a perfect base for any colour to be applied on top. It sets quickly to a matte finish, and ensures my eyeshadow stays in place for hours. Although it's not technically a 'primer', it's worked better than any I've tried. (I may have on occasion gone to sleep with my eyeshadow still on from a night out (oops), and wake up the next day my eyeshadow looks perfect. Seriously perfect.)

It can, obviously, be worn alone, if you like a pale pink, but for me I solely use it as a base. MAC do offer other great shades, and finishes in the paint pot line and I'm very tempted to pick up another when my ban is over, something with a bit of shimmer perhaps.
